As we mark 50 years of NAIDOC Week in 2025, we celebrate the enduring strength, wisdom and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as well as the vision of the next generation.
This year’s theme, ‘The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy’, calls on us to amplify the voices of young First Nations leaders, especially women and gender diverse people, who are driving change across communities, systems and generations.
NAIDOC Week is an opportunity to highlight the generations and wisdom of songlines, traditional knowledge, language and culture which has been passed down from elders.
‘We celebrate the elders and the growing strength of the next generation of children and young people who will carry the knowledge to build on their vision and leadership, who will continue to walk with pride not only on the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead,’ says Alliance CEO Sandra Creamer.
At the Australian Women’s Health Alliance, we honour the connection between culture, gender and health and stand in solidarity with First Nations women leading with strength, vision and care to ensure health equity is not just a goal, but a lived reality.
That’s why we will be sharing examples of culturally safe and gender-responsive approaches to health and prevention throughout the week, recognising the leadership role of First Nations women and gender diverse in our communities.
