Module 4 Activity: Reflection Suggestions

Who might play a role in improving access to sexual and reproductive healthcare such as contraception?

Suggestions:

Sets national health priorities, spending, regulations and standards, including accreditation of health service organisations and professionals.

Implement national priorities at the state/territory level, fund and govern public health services.

Assess community needs and commission health services to meet those needs, minimising gaps or duplication.

Provide direct services, education, advocacy, expert advice and serve priority populations including women gender diverse people from diverse backgrounds.

Some organisations such as training bodies and professional associations set clinical standards and guidelines, and provide continuing professional development.

Provide relevant healthcare such as contraception, STI testing, abortion care, specialist reproductive healthcare, mental health support and support to address broader social determinants of health.

Deliver sexuality and respectful relationships education, offer relevant health qualifications, conduct relevant research and provide expert advice.

Influence social and cultural norms, conversations about sexual and reproductive health, potential sources of information (including disinformation and misinformation).
