Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Strategy

This national strategy applied to the work of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade from 2016 to 2025. It outlines why and how DFAT worked on gender equality and women’s empowerment in foreign policy, economic diplomacy and development programming.

In 2025 the Australian Government launched Australia’s International Gender Equality Strategy, which replaces the Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment Strategy. This document is housed on the Women’s Health Hub for historical and herstorical purposes.
